Cal men and women win Pac-12 golf championships
Cal’s men won the first conference title in school history when Brandon Hagy sank a birdie putt on the second playoff hole at Trysting Tree Golf Club, capping a day that began with the Bears six shots back of third-round leader Oregon at Corvallis, Ore.
Cal finished 12-under-par for the tournament, one shot better than Oregon. Hagy’s final round of 68 moved him into a tie for fifth in the individual medalist competition, which was won by Stanford’s Andrew Yun (275, 13-under).
Hagy forced the playoff by draining a 25-foot birdie putt on the 18th hole.
Cal’s Joel Stalter finished at 5-under 283, tied for ninth.
Meanwhile, at Pullman, Wash., Joanne Lee’s birdie putt on the final hole lifted Cal’s women to their second team title. The first was in 2003.
USC had pulled into a tie with Cal at 18-over after the 16th hole at Palouse Ridge Golf Club. The teams remained tied until the 18th, when Lee’s putt put her team up by one stroke. The Bears’ Daniela Holmqvist sealed the win with her par putt.
USC’s Doris Chen won the individual title with a 1-over-par 217.
